A Landscape Hotel is specifically designed to facilitate a direct, immersive connection with the landscape and surrounding natural environment. As best we know, the term was coined by Norwegian architects Jensen & Skodvin in the naming process for the Juvet Landscape Hotel in Valldal, Norway, which opened in 2008. Juvet features in the film Ex Machina and television series Succession.

We are located in North Orland, at 85 Dodge Hill Rd, Orland, ME 04472. In fact, our 166-acre property is the northern-most parcel in the town, abutting Dedham to the north and Bucksport to the west. We are 15 minutes off route 1 to the south, and 15 minutes off route 1A to the North. Acadia National Park is 45 minutes away.
-
To preserve the quiet and the soil, our property is primarily pedestrian-focused. Guests park in a central lot, and we provide gear carts (or staff assistance) to help transport luggage to your cabin via our maintained service roadways.
-
Toward the top of the hill, there’s a parking lot to your right. Park here, load up your cart (provided), and walk to your cabin! Signage marks the way.
-
Yes; our central outdoor area, which we call “The Tables,” includes long covered tables, fire pits, and Adirondack chairs. There is also a shared sauna with bookable hours, which you can sign up for.
-
We believe giving yourself the time to unhurriedly cook a meal for yourself and loved ones is true luxury. While we don’t have a restaurant onsite, we do have a “provisions store” with basic shelf- and freezer-stable goods like pasta and meat, and each cabin is equipped with a kitchen and grill / firepit (see accommodations page). For those looking for someone else to take on the cooking / cleaning, see recommended restaurants on our Offsite page.
-
Think of it like going to a well-stocked AirBNB. Mostly, you need to bring clothes and groceries; we provide much of the rest. Specifically, we provide towels, all cooking / dining implements, coffee, tea, salt, pepper, and olive oil.
-
Yes! Each refrigerator is stocked with organic coffee.
-
Feel free to request one, and we’ll do our best to accommodate! No guarantees, but we encourage you to ask.

Our sauna is available to all guests and can be booked online. You can book a private 50-minute session, or join "community hours” daily from 6-9pm. The sauna is centrally located in the bathhouse, on the left side of the building. There is a changing room, and bathrooms in the building for post-sauna showering. Cold plunge coming soon!
-
Bring a towel from your room. Clothing (swimwear or underwear) is required for community hours, and optional for private sessions.
-
Our Field Cabins all have full ensuite bathrooms with flush toilets and showers. Our accessible Field Cabin includes an accessible bathroom, including shower w/seat. Forest Cabin guests use the shared bathhouse, centrally located, about a 300ft walk from the furthest away Forest Cabin.
-
The primary difference is the bathroom situation. Field Cabins (including the accessible model) have ensuite full baths and are larger; Forest Cabins share a bathhouse and area more intimately scaled. All cabin details can be viewed on the Cabins page.
-
